Memory:
the storage and retrieval of information, knowledge, and procedures for later use
Iconic Memory:
- a momentary sensory memory of visual stimuli - a photographic or picture image memory lasting no more that a few tenths of a second |
Echoic Memory:
- momentary sensory memory of auditory stimuli |
'acoustic similarity': it is more difficult to remember lists of similar sounding words than lists of dissimilar words
|
3 TYPES:
Episodic: memory of past events Semantic: memory of the meaning of things Procedural: memory of 'how to' do certain things |
2 PROCESSES:
Encoding: converts whatever you are perceiving into a construct to store in your memory for later Retrieval: re-accesses these constructs that were previously encoded from your memory |
